I always liked reading, but up until recently, I felt like I didn’t have the time or the mental capacity to read for pleasure. Reading can be a strenuous task and I felt I had quite a strenuous life so when the day came to an end and I found myself with a free 30 minutes before I went to bed, invariably I would choose to do something other than reading. Ironically, I often found myself writing during this time.

But now that I’ve found myself with a little more time, I have fallen back into the habit of reading and it is wonderful. It turns out, reading just a little bit every day begins to add up very quickly. And the more you read, the more adept you become at reading which means that more time spent reading will allow you to read more in less time. As reading becomes more of a habit and less of a mental chore, it becomes harder to put a book down than it is to pick one up.

As a perpetually curious person, a book is a perfect artifact. Books are uniquely capable of delivering a depth of knowledge that no other medium can reach. Thousands of lives can be lived and many degrees can be earned through the sole source that is books.

Even the busiest person in the world can carve out some time to read a book; being busy is not a valid excuse. With enough desire, you can be the avid reader you’ve always wanted to be.
